My first stop: my mechanic. He's accumulated crazy numbers of cars on his farm over the years, and he told me to have a look around and see if I liked anything. I like dealing with him, as he's up front and reasonable, and I don't have to drive all over the state looking at shit, and he also had some cool stuff, so I just might buy one of these babies off him. All are manual unless otherwise stated.
I'll lead off with the Comanche, I've always liked them, and the only real problem I have with this one is that it's not a manual. Otherwise a sweet little truck.
And then we have a MkI Golf (aftermarket badged as a GTI?) Sweet anyway.
Hidden in the woods behind the main field, a nice little gem, first gen CRX
Fairly clean Z, not sure of year, no badging indicating 240/260/whatever. Very interested in this as it's a straight six, and I've always wanted something with one.
And the only one that runs currently, as he just acquired it, although he may want it for himself, not sure, a bone stock 2nd gen RX7 (and in the background, my old Mazdaspeed Protege, which I sold to him)

pretty sure all GTIs were 2 door, also not a stock spoiler thingy, GTIs were 83 and 84 only

Neat collection there he's got!
The Mk1 is awesome! (minus that weird spoiler) I really want one for myself now as a DD. I thought the GTI was only a two door though in Mk1 and 2 flavor...?
I vote for the Z because they're such beautiful cars and pretty dang unique if you fix it up and restore that sucker.

All three of those looks awesome. The RX7 scares me because I know nothing about rotaries. Are you sure that is a GTI, because 4 doors. If it is the GTI that would be my first choice. But the Z-car looks really good too. The truck just kinda looks ho-hum

Now that you mention it...they were two door only. Yet thisone is gti badged. Dafuq

Yeah, I am thinking aftermarket badges as well, heh

If it were up to me, I'd get either the Z, CRX, or RX7.

RX7 or Z. The RX is my choice, but I'm biased.
![]() 01/14/2014 at 23:16 |

I'm definitely leaning towards the Z at this point, straight six + some badass wing mirrors and a nice exhaust...oh yes.

Weird...
The regular Rabbits are still pretty cool and I'd consider one if it was in decent shape and not rusting completely away (though I can't imagine how slow they are o_O).
From what I've seen and heard, they rust like crazy (not to mention I'm in the northeast). The GTI I found locally needed all new floors :/

I'm thinking someone just stuck some GTI badging on it, as several have mentioned the extra doors. And ho hum??? That's a motherfuckin JeepTruck!

Do the van. All you'll need is shag and plywood....Or black and pink paint. Your choice.

Hehe, bias can be a good thing. Hell, it'd be nice to have two Mazdas in the driveway. Although I bet he'll want more than I want to give for it.

Nice thing about Texas, rust is usually minimal. Interestingly enough, he has 3 mkI Rabbits, this one and a pair of diesels. Now if you're talking slow....

ROFL. And a speaker on top that plays A-Team music

Id argue for the Z first, then the Comanche as second (I'm a truck person, and those jeep trucks are awesome). While I appreciate the others, they don't really do anything for me

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

haha yessss that'd be super slow but pretty damn sweet nonetheless.
I'd drive a diesel Rabbit fo sho. You should snag one and let me know how slow it really is. Drag race a 2003 Camry at a red light perhaps and document the results ;)

Lol, 5 minutes later we finish the standing 1/4!

Z seems to be the general consensus, I'm feeling.

I briefly owned a '77 Dodge Sportsman. It had vintage 'mag wheels', flares, and copious amounts of red and gold shag. It was also beat and painted shit brown. I was going to fix it up and use it as a track tow rig. The plan was to paint it Laguna Seca Blue, put in new grey shag, and in nice black swoopy script, paint the name on the side...'The Bird's Nest'.

If it was the older gladiator it would be something. But I just don't have much of a draw to jeeps other than the Cherokee XJs and the wagoneers

Whatever you pick, just make sure it has the least amount of rust. That will eat up so much of your time.

That's a few sweeties to choose from. If all in similar condition and price I'd probably go with the Z. If we're talking a few hundred dollars I'd get the truck and a car. Fix truck first then great parts hauler for car. Once car is running sell truck.

Where is this? I want that Comanche!
![]() 01/15/2014 at 00:00 |

1) Z
2) (tie) Comanche & CRX. Tiebreaker: If the Jeep is a 4 cyl, it places 3rd. If it was a manual 4 cyl, 2nd place. If it was 6 cyl manual, 1st place overall.
3) RX-7
4) Rabbit. It's definitely not a GTI (4 door, wrong colour in & out, shiny metal bumpers, no matte black vinyl surrounding rear window) nor is it even a Golf. If the emblem does say "Golf GTI", well, it's not the original badge. This is a US market Mk.1, which was never sold as a Golf (unless you count later Cabriolets). Not that it really matters. There's not much difference between them, so a lightly modded non-GTI is kinda the same as a stock GTI.

The Z and MK1 would've caught my eye most. This guy has some nice project cars on his land!

I think I would go with either the MJ or the Z (or FC). (Rabbit personally, but I have 2 both not running)
The 4.0 if the MJ has it is a good motor. I would see about retro fitting a 97+ XJ front end and 4wd 5sp drivetrain. I have an XJ with a ton of stuff and it was fun.
The Z or FC, 70-80's sports cars would be fun. I love the shapes. Rotary would be awesome, but I think I'd get the Z.

RX-7 or the Z. a friend of mine has an '88 RZ-7 convertible and absolutely loves the thing. and it's running which is a bit of a plus. The Z is just an iconic car and looks pretty decent as well.

It actually has a Rabbit badge and gti next to it. But I refuse to call a Golf a Rabbit. Just because.

And this is only a tiny slice of what he has. 90% of it is pickups and old American iron, and modern broken down econoboxes like Cavaliers.

My old man actually has a 4.0 4wd wrecked on his property, 99 model iirc, but it's an auto.

Between the two I'm leaning towards the Z, cause straight six
![]() 01/15/2014 at 11:43 |

Got more pics? What other econoboxes are there?

Escorts, Cavaliers, Neons, Contours, stuff like that. Only took pics of the stuff I was interested in tho.
